Hey all, chapter over! A few quick things:

And lastly and more seriously: I was talking to people at Hiveworks about tumblr. I’ve never been able to make a following there because I’ve always had trouble producing content for it. Then along came the insiders’s blog, which I update frequently. I would very much like to open the blog up to the public–it’s an audience I would really like to tap into, and it’s really important to me that as many people read and enjoy our comic as possible. This might let us expand in an avenue we haven’t fully explored.
That said, access to the insider’s blog has been for donators only. Of you’ve paid money to get into it, I would feel bad if I opened it up without your permission. I have all of your email addresses, so you’d still be getting the sodestories before everyone else, but I really can’t make this decision without consulting you guys first. I leave it to you!
Anyhow, I’m writing this author’s note from my phone, which is difficult and also irritating. Let me know how you feel!

Aww. The giant bird monsters need hugs! *hugs giant bird monsters from space* There, there, giant bird monsters.
Actually, giving it some thought, they’re actually “giant psychic extraterrestrial bird monsters with six eyes who fly around in a technically small spaceship and possibly play musical instruments which may or may not appear and sound similar to violins.”
Fiah are a surprisingly huggy species. They’re extremely gregarious, so touching and close proximity are comforting things for them, and they don’t have any of the awkward complicating factors that Humans do (i.e. sex organs, sex drives, age-old deep-seated religious influence telling them their bodies are bad, etc).
They also like to hug when they fight, and by “hug” I mean “grab with their huge wing-arms and crush using their horrifying upper body strength.” Haalha’s Protectors (police) are notorious for this; if you misbehave, they literally just pick you up and sort of aggressively hug (constrict) you until you’re all cuddled out (barely conscious because it’s getting increasingly hard to breathe).
Makes sense; it’s clear to me that what criminals really need are hugs. Nice, big, feathery hugs.
indubitably. I love cuddly alien monsters, they are a lot better than the scary ones.
The Fiah are much better than the titular aliens from the aliens franchise. For a start, Face-huggers are a metaphor for rape. ‘Nuff said, yeah?
I’m with Lumiere; this is friggin’ adorable.
Also, that’s pretty cool, subduing-by-constriction. If you don’t get incidental injuries (cracked ribs etc.) it’s a relatively nonviolent/nonharmful way to bring someone under control. Human police have used air chokes (chokes that put pressure on airways, as opposed to restricting blood flow or hitting pressure points) to the same purpose, but they’ve had to stop. Unfortunately, air-choking humans sometimes leaves them with cracked windpipes, which won’t kill them immediately but can strangle them to death overnight as the windpipe swells up. If fiah don’t have that kind of vulnerability, this fits into the whole fiah distaste for violence very neatly.
Makes sense! If their hugs are so dangerous, the fact that they’re trusting one another in their arms says a lot.

“incubation” time is on their eggs?
