Happy New Year everyone! And what a year it has been. I spent a goof half of this year struggling to get this comic out because I was pregnant, and the other half struggling to get it out because we’d just had a baby. We joined Hiveworks, we just had a server move, I JUST finished putting up this new look for the website to accommodate larger pages next chapter, we have a set date and means of making book 1, and we’ll be heading back to twice a week updates mid-January. That’s CRAZY.
Anyhow, before anything else, here are the current totals for the character drive:

That totals $445 raised, AND, I’ll be accepting donation votes until the end of today. It’s a tight race, so if you want your favourite to have extra comics done about them faster than the rest, this is your last chance! Donations will also get you into the Insiders Club where we’ll still be running weekly contests for bonus art and wallpapers and posting extra stuff. This past week was busy because of Christmas/New Years stuff, so it was a bit slow, but here’s what we’ve posted since last week:
- Raine as a My Little Pony
- A pretty finished panel from page 2 of Henri’s Sidestory
- A question about shipping that led me to decide what the new contest will be.
- A reminder that you can totally ask non-anonymous questions if you like!
Which leads me to next week’s contest:
CURRENT CONTEST
Tell me in the comments or through the ask box at the Insider’s Blog what pairing of characters you ship from The End–it doesn’t matter how unlikely or outlandish the pairings, because there will be adorable sketches for everyone, and then some of the nicer sketches will be fixed up and made into wallpapers–one for non-insiders, two for insiders.

hey, I dunno if you guys know, but everything on the site, except for the background, is too far to the right. It looks like it might be because the comic page panel’s border is too wide. The the background cuts off a bit to show white space, and under the credit links at the very bottom is white space and a small smiley.
you might want to fix those…
That’s really strange. I’ve checked it in chrome, about 6 versions of firefox and two versions of IE and am experiencing none of those issues. If anyone else is having them, please let me know and I’ll look into it.
Android 2.3.6 on Dolphin and Fire fix on Kubuntu – no issues here.
Try using a monitor with a horizontal resolution less than 1200 pixels, or a browser window that’s narrow.
Should be fixed on all pages regardless of browser window size and/or screen resolution!
Also it just occurred to me that the page doesn’t have a background. It is a flat coded hex value, no image involved. Now THAT is strange. I’ll look into it.
I can see the white bar, but that’s about it. Doesn’t seem
like much of a problem to me if not everybody is experiencing it.
Anyway, I’m definitely looking forward to the next few strips!
You’re artwork is just really amazing, love it! I’ll be watching
closely <3 :3
White bar should be fixed!
I like the new site design. Very Flash!
I ship Victor and Blaire!
But what would the Victor Smart/Blaire Warner power-couple name be? Victaire? Blactor? Smarner? Wart??
It is a trick question! There is no ridiculous gossip media in the depths of space. This is solely because celebrity-news reporters have not yet devised a means of pursuing people that far; the instant Earth’s paparazzi gain access to space travel, the entire galaxy is going to hate us forever.
And the end result would be considered justified geocide.
In fact, thanks to broadcast of One Direction, Bieber, Spice Girls, and Boys2Men leaching out into space, somebody is probably already on their way here.
I ship…. Raine and Jack, the guy she was dating before she pushed him away with insane Otherkin babble, even though they haven’t met again since. I still swear to God that she was lying because she knew something bad was about to happen. Pairing name? Rack just sounds dumb and Jacraine is worse; RaJack is even WORSE so we’ll go with Rack.
I also ship Victaire (I think that’s the best pairing name) and Henri and the con girl who was yelling at him whose name I can’t remember. (I’ll get everyone’s names eventually!) (Okay, so I looked them up – Trish. Which makes the pairing name Henrish.)
Awkwardly, I ship Endi/Ethma (Ethmi!) even though their species don’t do it that way, and I ship the friendship of Cassi/Endi. (Cassendi, but not a romantic way, so we can skip pairing name) <3
I ship a lottttt of things, though! Don't know if any of this is canon <3 But I like it anyway!
I’m pretty sure Raine is Ith, though… I do not foresee good things coming out of that relationship. Just my opinion.
……..THis page has eaten my comment, my lovely comment about shipping! D:
It didn’t! For some reason, 9 out of 10 times, Akismet decides your comments are spam and I end up finding them when I check through spam comments, which can add up to several hundred a day. I have no idea why it does this. :/
It sounds like some kind of strange, overzealous filter D: Good luck fixing whatever it is!
Ah, that moment when you’ve gone through the archive of a comic and now have to sit and wait with everyone else who’s read it before you. Perhaps I should feel a sense of community, but all I feel is a mounting impatience.
Thoughts so far: You’re making a very bold comic here, long form dramatic stories with not a lot of giggles don’t tend to get a lot of readers on the Internet. The complex setting requiring extra-narrative wiki browsing and the several mysteries that go unanswered for chapter after chapter don’t help either. So that’s inspiring.
It’s easily among the top ten best looking webcomics I’ve seen, with a tight and obviously competent art style that still leaves room for distinctive individual style. The character designs could perhaps stand to be more creative and diverse.
Some of the characters so far show mostly the potential to become interesting, but some have been developed into fairly engaging, sympathetic and credible people; the cast seems devoid of shallow or stereotypical characters, even if the manner in which their characteristics are presented occasionally comes across overly direct, at least for my tastes.
I’d suggest maybe to embrace the decompressed pace of the comic further in the future; don’t be afraid to let plots and characters develop slowly, subtly. Anyone still following the comic at this point is likely prepared to wait for things to pay off in the far future.
I can hardly wait to see what’s going to happen. . .but I will.
